 Sports Injuries Courses

With 

With injured participants at sporting events having to wait very prolonged periods before the arrival of an ambulance, often on sports fields in cold, wet conditions, with injuries that can often be immobilised and the patient removed safely into a warm changing room or other shelter from the weather, we designed a course for managing sports injuries.

The course is designed for sports clubs first aiders, physio’s, nurses, and club officials  with the aim of teaching the skills required to manage sports participants injuries and remove them from the sports field and into shelter using equipment that ensures the safe management of the injury and the safe move to shelter.

We deliver 3 separate levels of Sports Injuries Courses designed for various levels of staff who work with sporting organisations. Our courses are delivered by Advanced Paramedic Practitioners who have many years experience working with various sorting organisations.

 

  The courses can be attended by individuals or, block booked by organisations. The courses are aimed at providing knowledge at skills at the various levels for individuals and organisations.

The courses range from the basic 4-hour emergency first aid training, the 1 day sports injuries course and the 2 day sports injuries course.

Sports Injuries Course 1.

This sports injuries course is delivered over a 4 hour period and is designed to ensure that the team first aider is able to deal with emergency situations such as:

  • Unconscious patients

  • Head Injuries

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • AED (Defibrillation)

  • Airway management

  • Life threatening bleeding

  • Fractures

The course can be held at your venue and requires a minimum of 10 candidates and is delivered over a 4 hour period.

Sports Injuries Course 2.

This sports injuries course is designed for those who assist in the provivion of first aid at small scale or short time-span sports events such as Rugby or Football matches.  Candidates will cover all that is covered in the sports injuries 1 course as well as:

  • Airway Adjuncts

  • Airway manoeuvres 

  • Spinal injuries

  • Long bone fractures

  • Frac immobilisers

  • Life threatening bleeding

The course can be held at your venue and requires a minimum of 10 candidates. and is delivered over an 8 hour period.

Sports Injuries Course 3.

This sports injuries course is designed for those who are responsible for the delivery of first aid at sporting events to those participating such as at Rugby or Football events.

As well as covering all the subjects in the sports injuries course 1 & course 2, those attending this course will also undertake training in:

  • Spinal assessment

  • Spinal immobilisation

  • Use of cervical collars

  • Use of the orthopaedic stretcher

  • Use of Oro & Naso Pharyngeal airways

  • Wound cleaning & hygiene

  • Bandaging

  • Dislocations and fractures including skul, jaw, arms legs and ribs

  • Sprains

  • Strains

  • Eye injuries

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Banned substances in sport

Candidates on this course will learn how to safely and efficiently manage a player / participant who has sustained a head injury, spinal injury or long bone fracture and how to use the equipment to safely remove the player from the field into the safety and warmth of the changing room or first aid room to await the arrival of the ambulance service. This element of the course will require a visit to your sports field / facility and some training on the field. Therefor boots and match day kit is advised for participants.
