FREC-3 Re-Qualification Course 

 

This qualification is for people who already hold a Valid and In-Date, Level 3 FREC Certificate and who work or hope to work as emergency care providers in various healthcare settings. It will give them a foundation level of prehospital care knowledge and clinical practice to deal with a range of prehospital care situations. QA qualification is for people who work or hope to work as emergency care providers in various healthcare settings. It will give them a foundation level of prehospital care knowledge and clinical practice to deal with a range of prehospital care situations.

In order to be eligable to undertake this 3-Day Re-Qualification, candidates must be in posession of a valid, in-date FREC3 certificate and be able to produce this for inspection and verification by ourselves and the awarding body.

Re-Qualification requirements

 

This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified. Requalification training should be delivered in no less than 21 hours (3 days) excluding breaks.

 

Note: Requalification requires successful completion of the original qualification.

Candidates will be required to undertake the written and practical assessments and achieve the pass mark in order to renew their qualification over the three days.

First Response Emergency Care is a qualification on the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) and therefore regulated by OFQUAL. The FREC suite of qualifications has been developed by the Awarding Body Qualsafe and clinically endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh – Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC). High

 

The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Training Agency is an approved Qualsafe Centre to provide the First Response Emergency Care Level 3 qualification. 

The Course is suitable for:


The FREC 3 provides a solid foundation for the learner to be competent to deal with a wide range of medical and trauma situations in the prehospital environment and is suitable for but not limited to:

  • Event first aiders

  • Fire fighters

  • Police fire arms and medics

  • Close protection operative: this qualification is recognised by the Security Industries Authority (SIA)

  • Those working in or traveling through Ukraine

  • Aid Workers in Hostile Environemnts / disaster zones etc.

  • Expedition Leaders UK and overseas

  • Journalists working overseas

  • Researchers working overseas

  • Film Crews working in remote areas

  • Community Responders in the UK

  • High risk work environments in the UK and overseas

  • Offshore workers

COURSE DURATION AND LOCATIONS
 

The course is run over three days with one Tutor to six participants.   Part of the course will be classroom based with a very high content of practical.  Some of the practical elements and scenarios will be conducted outside at our training facility and so appropriate wet weather clothing siill be required. We want you to be confident and competent in all weathers that you may be required to apply your prehospital skills.

Although not mandatory, learners are encouraged to complete a minimum of 118hrs self-directed study.  The self-directed study can include additional reading and applied practice.  Motivated participants used to self-directed study will be able to complete this section without additional help. 

Course Overview

The FREC 3 requalification course is made up of three mandatory units of 21hrs not including breaks attended over 3 days. There is an additional 150 hrs of learning time. This can be achieved by pre-course reading from the course manual and post course Continual Professional Development (CPD). High Peak First Aid will assist you with planning for the self-directed study for the First Response Emergency Care qualification.

Learning Outcomes.

Unit 1 First Response Emergency Care

  1. Understand the role and responsibilities of a first responder providing emergency care.

  2. Be able to assess an incident.

  3. Be able to assess a patient.

  4. Be able to assess a  patient’s airway.

  5. Be able to manage a patient’s airway. (Oropharyngeal and Nasopharyngeal Airways)

  6. Be able to manage an unresponsive patient who is not breathing normally.

  7. Be able to use appropriate equipment during a resuscitation attempt.

  8. Be able to safely administer emergency oxygen.

Unit 2 First Response Emergency Care of Trauma

Learning Outcomes.

  1. Be able to manage catastrophic bleeding. (Includes use of Haemostats and Tourniquets)

  2. Be able to manage a patient who is in shock. (recognising the different types of shock)

  3. Be able to manage a patient who is bleeding.

  4. Know how to manage a patient with burns or scald.

  5. Know how to manage a  patient with minor injuries.

  6. Know how to manage a patient with sudden poisoning.

  7. Be able to provide emergency care to a patient with head and spinal injuries.

  8. Be able to provide emergency care to a patient with injuries to bones, muscles and joints.

Unit 3 First Response Emergency Care of Medical Conditions

Learning Outcomes.

  1. Understand how to identify and manage  a patient with breathing difficulties. (Knowledge of respiratory system ).

  2. Know how to manage a patient with anaphylaxis.

  3. Know how to manage a patient with suspected  major illness.

  4. Know how to manage a patient who is in seizure.

  5. Understand how to provide emergency care for the effects of environmental exposure.

Learners will need the following reference material in order to undertake this Level 3 Re-Qualification Course. As a minimum we recommend:

 

  • Generic Core Material – Prehospital Emergency Care Course by Faculty of Prehospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

 

We would also recommend further reading in the areas of anatomy, physiology and First Aid such as:

  • Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness, 11th edition by Ross and Wilson First Aid Made Easy by Nigel Barraclough
